Gender And Development Program
Introduction
Gender And Development approach recognizes that gender is an organizing principle of society that affects women and men in all activities and relationships and consequently influences the outcomes of development interventions. Gender And Development Program of HANDS formally designed in 2000, Based on integrated community development approach to transforms gender equity & equality in all projects, program and policies. GAD program of HANDS works as cross cutting theme to strengthen and empower communities to become socially and economically self-reliant.

Strategic steps
  1. Identification of communities.
  2. Situation analysis for need assessment through qualitative and quantitative methods.
  3. Formation, strengthening and capacity building of Community organizations through participatory process.
  4. Support initiatives of local communities towards development.
  5. Orientation /sensitization of staff and community regarding gender development.
  6. Ensure provision of micro credit & skill enhancement trainings.
  7. Strengthening of networks for upliftment of COs status.
  8. Networking with other NGOs, GOs.
  9. Advocacy on social issues to achieve the vision of Gender and Development.
  10. Research and resource mobilization.
Mentoring
GAD program of HANDS had identified twelve from Regional offices and trained them as gender focal person at their region, Focal person of GAD over all responsible of all activities of GAD and . At head office level seven (7) trainings have been conducted to strengthen knowledge, skills and capacity of focal persons. Their major responsibilities are to promote Gender equity and equality in all projects, to enhance understanding about
GAD issues of all region office staff , may act as a trainer and facilitate staff in GAD issues.
