| Introduction |
Program
started from one village and now has reached to 29 villages of Bin Qasim and
Gadap Towns (Karachi Rural), Hala and Thatta with 150 catchment villages. HANDS' Primary Health Care program based on direct service
delivery which HANDS thoroughly analyzed and reached to the point that the
grieving maternal morbidity and mortality situation cannot be addressed with
this service delivery approach. HANDS changed its strategy in health to improve the quality
of services and to make it sustainable. |

| A Model of Public Private Partnership |
|
| HANDS has extensive and rewarding experience working with government (District and provincial). HANDS is presently running/facilitating two hospitals in Sindh i.e. CDG – HANDS Hospital, Jam Kanda village, Bin Qasim Town, Karachi and Govt. Taluka Hospital Hala, Hyderabad. According to agreement HANDS supported and strengthened the secondary health care facilities in these hospitals. This is an excellent model of public private partnership and is providing secondary care facilities to patients coming from Hala and its adjoining areas. |

| Progress & Achievements (2003-2004) |
- Initiation of training of 3rd batch for CMWs and CHAs at BQT and Hala.
- Affiliation of CMW & CHA Training School of Hala, Hyderabad with Sindh Nursing Education Board (SNEB).
- HANDS CMWs appeared in SNEB exam and success rate has been 78%.
- Developed Training Manuals for CHAs and CMWs in Urdu.
- Established 37 Reproductive Health Centers in Karachi rural, Hala and Thatta.
- Conducted awareness raising sessions about “adolescents health and life skills” in 21 Govt. Secondary schools (Girls & Boys), Hyderabad.
- Trained 38 CHAs.
- Developed health messages in local language for workers of RCC project.
- Developed material about balanced diet for Tawana Pakistan Project (TPP).
- Held 4 training workshops regarding balanced diet & trained 35 HANDS TPP staff.
- 82% clients are satisfied with the services provided by CDG – HANDS Hospital Jamkanda, according to the survey conducted by The Aga Khan University, Karachi.
- Conducted research survey for identification of causes of Hepatitis B & C in UC Landhi in collaboration with The Aga Khan University, Karachi.
- Developed and printed booklet on ‘First Aid” in collaboration with Church World Services.
- Provided technical assistance to Pathfinders in development of manual of adolescent sexual reproductive health.
- 36559 Home visits paid by CMWs, CHAs and Health Workers 2480 health sessions were held and 24377 community members participated.
- Total Registered pregnant women 2133.
- 4547 antenatal check ups were done.
- Identified 298 high risk women.
- Total 1157 deliveries conducted.
- Postnatal care during first 24 hours of delivery of 970 women.
- 2017 postnatal check ups done.
